Volunteers collected school supplies and donations Aug. 25 to support student success in the new school year.

A school supply drive sponsored by the Town of Tonawanda Common Council, the Tonawanda City School District Board of Education, and the Tonawanda Education Association ran from 5 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot near the intersection of Fletcher and School streets. Donors dropped off supplies of pens, paper, folders, book bags, and more, with students at Mullen and Riverview elementary schools and Tonawanda Middle and High School the beneficiaries. Students at Tonawanda City School District will receive the supplies when school starts.

"These supplies benefit students directly in our community, so we want to get them into the students' hands right away so they can have a successful start to the school year," said Common Council President Jenna Koch, who was among about 10 volunteers working the drive. Koch added that those who couldn't make the drive Wednesday can still support the drive by calling 692-3070.
