The halls of Tonawanda City School District are buzzing once again as staff returned this week for conference days, professional development and classroom preparations ahead of the first day of school.

To celebrate the start of a new school year, district staff gathered for a spirited Kentucky Derby-themed "Day at the Races" orientation event that combined fun, teamwork and plenty of school spirit.

The morning began with Kentucky Derby-themed refreshments, including derby-style sandwiches and refreshing mint julep mocktails, giving attendees a taste of the famous race-day tradition. Laughter and friendly competition followed as staff members participated in an inflatable horse race challenge, one of the day's highlights. After a thrilling finish, the district's beloved Timberwolf mascot galloped away with first-place honors, earning bragging rights and plenty of cheers from the crowd.collagee of staff dressed in inflatable costumes, kentucky derby themed table

Beyond the fun, the orientation provided an opportunity for staff members from across the district to reconnect, collaborate and hear important updates as they prepare to welcome students back into classrooms. With classrooms nearly ready and preparations well underway, the district is looking forward to an outstanding year ahead for students, families and the entire Timberwolf community.

It's going to be a "good year"!
