Dear Families and Caregivers:
As a practice, both Middle School and High School in the Tonawanda City School District verify the absence of students when they are noted as absent from school. This system of “double checking” helps ensure that students are where they are supposed to be. As a parent/caregiver, you can support our efforts through the following steps:
Please email at tmhsattendance@tonacsd.org or call the school attendance line at 694-7660 ext. 6108 by 8:30 AM on the day of your child’s absence. When emailing or calling-state your name, child’s name, date, grade level, and reason for absence. You may also call the night before and leave a voicemail message. If no phone call is received, school personnel will call the number on file in our system to verify the absence.
Please note that a phone call is not needed for students arriving late to school.
Written documentation is required in order to mark an absence as excused. A written excuse stating your child’s name, date(s) of absence, and reason for the absence. This written notice should be sent to the attendance office within 48 hours of your child’s return. You may send the note in with your child or email the attendance office at tmhsattendance@tonacsd.org.
Please note that 10 excused/unexcused absences during the school year is considered chronically absent through NYS.
Your child(ren) should not be dropped off at school before 7:20 AM unless they are meeting with a teacher or attending a club or activity that meets before school begins. If your child will be arriving at 7:49 AM or later, you will need to send them to school with a late arrival notice.
Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Sincerely,
MSHS Administrative Team
