Second-grade students recently welcomed student scientists from the University at Buffalo for a special visit focused on microbiomes and microbes. During the hands-on experience, students stepped into the role of scientists by using swabs to collect samples from their heads, arms and various classroom surfaces.
They carefully placed their samples into petri dishes and will observe how microbes grow, helping them understand that microbes are all around us and play an important role in our world. The visit provided an engaging, hands-on science experience that sparked curiosity and encouraged scientific thinking.
