But something different happened when the Unified Basketball teams from Tonawanda and North Tonawanda came together this week. Instead of competition, the gym was filled with high‑fives, shared laughter and a sense of community that overshadowed the usual rivalry.
Unified Basketball brings students of all abilities together on the same team, creating an environment where everyone contributes, competes and celebrates the game side by side.
At this week's game, players from both districts cheered for one another, celebrated every basket and demonstrated sportsmanship at its best.
By the final buzzer, the students' energy and teamwork showed just how quickly a rivalry can fade when everyone is playing for the same purpose.
