For 25 years, Tonawanda Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade ICT special education teacher Heidi Helfman has been a steady, joyful presence in the district. She witnessed our transformation from a junior high serving only seventh and eighth graders into a thriving middle school community serving grades six to eight.
Throughout her career, Helfman has taught in both self-contained and integrated settings across multiple grade levels, fostering an inclusive environment where learners feel seen, supported and capable. Her classroom is grounded in differentiated instruction and built on strong, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, valued and confident in their ability to succeed.
According to TMS Principal Kristine Strible, Helfman is known for her exceptional collaboration with co-teachers, support staff and families to ensure students receive consistent, meaningful support throughout the day.
