The newest members of the Tonawanda Athletic Wall of Fame will be inducted this week as part of the T-NT festivities.

Paul Overturf - Class of 1971:
Paul was a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling and track. He set the school record in the discus at the time (147 feet 11 inches) as well as in the shot put. He broke the NFL record in the shot put at 58’ 4” which still stands as a THS record over 50 years later. He also won the Sectional AAA meet in the shot put to earn a trip to the state meet. He earned all NFL at defensive tackle and went on to play defensive tackle for the semi-pro Tonawanda Geminis as well as the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL before earning tryouts with the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears as well as our own Buffalo Bills.
Glen Cook - Class of 1977:
Glen was a three-sport athlete in football, swimming and baseball. He was a star pitcher on the 1976 and 1977 Section VI championship teams. During his junior year he was considered the best receiver in the NFL. As a starting pitcher and third baseman his senior year, he was the third leading hitter in the NFL’s regular season batting .365 and tying for the league lead in hits. He also had the third lowest ERA in the NFL as a senior (behind two of his teammates) with a 0.84 ERA along with a 5-0 record while striking out 71 batters in 41 2/3 innings. This was all before he threw a complete game two hit shutout with 11 k’s in the Section VI semifinals. He went on to become a star pitcher at Ithaca College where his success led him to being selected in the Major League Baseball draft in both 1980 by the San Diego Padres and 1981 by the Texas Rangers. He was called up to the majors by the Rangers in June 1985 joining a very select group of individuals from THS who got called up to “the show.”
Sandy (Sommer) Redmond - Class of 1983:
Sandy was a two-sport athlete in swimming and track. Early in her career she ran for the boy's track team at THS as the girl's team had yet to be created. Once the girl's team was in operation, she thrived on both the indoor and outdoor teams. Sandy set individual school records in the 1600m and 3200m and was also a member of the record breaking 4 x 800m relay. All of these records still stand today. In the pool she continued to shine. She was a five-year varsity swimmer setting numerous records along the way. She held individual school records in the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle along with the 100 breaststroke and was also part of the record breaking 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams. These two records still stand today more than four decades later.
Kalyn Compeau - Class of 2014:
Kalyn was a two-sport athlete in soccer and basketball where she gathered numerous accolades during her high school career. At the time of her graduation, she was the all-time leading goal scorer at THS amassing 97 goals. She earned first team ECIC accolades during all four years of high school. She was named the Tonawanda News Player of the Year as well as the Niagara Pal Athlete of the Year during her senior year. In basketball she earned second team ECIC on three occasions and was instrumental in leading two separate teams to Section VI championships including the 2014 basketball team who became the only THS girls' basketball team to make it to the Far West Regionals. She continued to play both sports in college at Medaille before finishing her soccer career at Daemen.
2010 baseball team:
Led by head coach John Frank, the team finished the season with a record of 21-3 and advanced farther in the playoffs than any other baseball team in the school’s history while outscoring their opponents by a staggering 189- 41 along the way. They were the 2010 ECIC Division IV Champions, Section VI Class B Champions as well as the Far West Regional Champions. They finished their remarkable run in Binghamton as state semi-finalists. They ended up being the #1 ranked small school team in WNY as well as the #5 ranked team in New York State.
