Kindergarten students at Tonawanda Elementary School recently brought a storybook to life in a creative and educational way.

After reading The Teacher from the Black Lagoon, a humorous tale featuring a monstrous teacher named Mrs. Green, students discussed how they would feel having a teacher like her. The conversation sparked a hands-on activity that combined art and math.

Using a variety of shapes, students designed their own monster masks, incorporating math concepts into the process. Once the masks were complete, the class took part in a monster parade through the school.

Teachers throughout the building joined in the fun, playing along and cheering on the students. The activity was a hit, and the children had a blast showcasing their creations.

This engaging lesson blended literature, creativity and math, and highlighted the joyful learning environment at TES.
