Points of Pride

At Tonawanda City School District, we’re proud of some of the initiatives that help kids learn outside of the box, with creative lessons that spark imagination, build confidence, and celebrate every student’s unique contribution.

In September, second-grade classrooms at Tonawanda Elementary School worked collaboratively in Mrs. Kimberly Honek’s STEAM room to create two patchwork murals. The project was inspired by the book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds.

According to Mrs. Honek, each student colored a unique piece of a mural. Just like the main character in the story learns to make her mark, students used their creativity and confidence to bring their piece to life.

Once all the pieces were completed, they were assembled to reveal a large, colorful poster that showed how everyone's individual contributions come together to create something beautiful as a team.

Everyone "Made their Mark!"
