In education, learning is a two-way street—and for Kelly Tess, that’s what makes teaching so rewarding. After 25 years in the classroom, the Tonawanda Elementary School first grade teacher says her students continue to teach her something new every day.
Tess got her start as a substitute with our district, before moving into a full-time role at Mullen, where she taught second, third, and fourth grades. She later transitioned to kindergarten and first grade at Riverview, eventually joining TES when the schools merged.
Known for her dedication to meeting students’ diverse educational needs, Tess fosters a classroom culture rooted in community and mutual support. She’s also a key member of the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Team and played a leading role in launching Hope Crew this year—initiatives that are making a meaningful impact at TES.
