Maverick, Tonawanda’s new Good Citizen Pup, has truly transformed the atmosphere of Tonawanda High School for the better!
From the moment he arrived, he brought smiles to the faces of both students and staff, lifting spirits and creating a more joyful, welcoming environment. Whether he was cuddled up reading with students, starring in a fun Tech Wars video alongside high schoolers, or simply providing a calm presence during stressful NYS testing days in the middle school, Maverick is making a lasting impact on school culture. His gentle, supportive nature helped students feel more at ease, and his presence added a special spark to the school community.
Dogs like Maverick in schools are a powerful source of emotional support and comfort, helping to reduce anxiety and encourage positive interactions. They can also motivate students to engage more in their learning and build stronger connections with peers and staff.
Maverick even met his new best friend, Morty the bunny—Tonawanda Middle/High school’s original furry support pal—who has been faithfully serving students since last school year!
