A Tonawanda Elementary School first grade class recently engaged in a powerful learning experience where they explored Jackie Robinson's legacy, wrote biographical pieces and even created personalized jerseys in his honor.
Their work was not only thoughtful and creative but also reflected a deep understanding of Robinson’s impact on history and society.
Inspired by their dedication, their teacher, Jenna Corrao, reached out to both Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Jackie Robinson Foundation to showcase the students’ work and share how they were honoring Jackie Robinson in the classroom.
To their amazement, both organizations responded with enthusiasm and appreciation:
The Commissioner of Major League Baseball sent a personal letter of gratitude, along with official Jackie Robinson Day pins for each of the students.
The Jackie Robinson Museum's lead educator also wrote a heartfelt letter and is sending a special message and keepsake for the students as recognition of their meaningful work.
This experience reminded students that their voices matter, their hard work and education can make a real difference and that their efforts are valued far beyond the walls of the school.
