Boys Bowling team places 2nd at state championships
On March 10, the Tonawanda Boys Bowling Team placed second at the NYSPHSAA State Bowling Championships.
This team celebrated their best finish in the history of Tonawanda Bowling. It began with the team winning the Class C Section VI title led by Junior Jon Kurdziel, who shot a 1504, which is an amazing 251 average per game. This gave the Warriors the right to represent Section VI for the second time at the Division 2 NYS Championships held in Syracuse.
While at the State finals, the Warriors were led again by Jon Kurdziel, who shot a 1,334 over 6 games, which was the second-highest 6-game total, along with a high game of a 279, which was the highest in the entire tournament for the boys. The entire team made valuable contributions throughout the 6 games to place 2nd behind Lansingburgh. Teammates Nate Amenta, Matt Forsha, Jon Kurdziel, Skyler Randell, Brendan Simonds, Brian Stone and Tyler Wells were proud to not only represent Section VI, but most importantly, Tonawanda High School.
In addition, the Section VI Girls Bowling All-Section Team took home a gold medal at the NYSPHSAA State Bowling Championships. On this particular team, all six ladies were amongst the best in their division all season long. Tonawanda Junior Melissa Large was the top individual scorer on the team. She finished with a total pinfall of 1,322 (220 average), which was fourth overall for the tournament.
Congratulations to Coaches Daryle Macro and Gina Maduri for a season to be remembered! Way to go WARRIORS!
