Students Let Their Goals Set Sail at Riverview

Students and staff are boarding the LeaderShip at Riverview School! Our students continue to grow as learners as leaders through the Leader in Me program. This program is based on the work of Dr. Stephen Covey’s book, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.” The goal of the Leader in Me program is for students to understand that they all have the essential qualities to become leaders. The Leader in Me also helps to create a common language within our school by teaching students “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”

Through building initiatives and classroom scoreboards, students continue to learn and practice their leadership habits on a daily basis. They are also setting goals throughout the year and are keeping a Leadership Notebook to track their progress. Various teachers and grade levels are working together by presenting habit-based assemblies to the school. Additionally, a Student Lighthouse Team helps with the building’s environment.

Leadership activities reach beyond the classroom and into our students’ homes with Parents and Partners Projects such as “Synergy Tree.” Students work on a family activity that is sent home by Riverview’s Lighthouse Team and the activity aligns with one of the Seven Habits.

Riverview students and clubs have put their lessons into action by leading programs that help their school and community. Students created a recycling program in response to the Leader in Me program.  Additionally, the Riverview Announcer’s Club held a “Socks and Mitten Campaign” through December. Donations from the campaign benefitted the Friends of the Night organization.
