Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation. ~ John F. Kennedy

Role of the Coach:
TCSD has initiated Instructional Coaching for grades 3-8.  The purpose of the coach is to provide support in all areas of curriculm, instruction, and assessment. Instructional Coaches are your fellow classroom teachers with the common goal to support all staff and student learning. Instructional Coaches do not evaluate teachers. Our goal is to increase student achievement by providing a safe and confident learning environment in which teachers can openly discuss the challenges they face and ideas they have.

How Have Teachers Used Coaches:
-Implement Kagan cooperative group structures to increase active learning
-Classroom management strategies (quiet signal, organizing the environment, tightening transitions, behavior management, etc.)
-Data gathering and analysis to use for discussion and instructional improvement
-New technology tools to enhance instruction (Smartbooard activities, clickers, wikis, web-site tools, videos, etc.)
-Common Core: incorporating reading and writing into all curricular areas
-Development of assessment tools to measure student progress
-NYS unit development
-Co-planning and resources gathering
-Modeling and demonstrating
-Conducted instructional surveys
